Porter Robinson debuts ‘Musician’ music video

Grammy-nominated artist Porter Robinson debuted the official music video for his latest release, “Musician” which is available now via Mom + Pop and is due to appear on his forthcoming album Nurture on April 23.

    Porter Robinson – Musician

Directed by Waboku Mah, the Asian-influenced animated video depicts what happens to a boy when he listens to music on a CD for the first time.  The music ignites his soul, which makes him want to share it and transform the world.  Set in the future within an imagined universe, the video is a fun pairing to the track’s sonic offering.

“‘Musician’ was one of the very last songs written for Nurture. The song is meant to feel like a celebration like I’m reveling in the joy of newfound inspiration. If the rest of Nurture is about me trying to find hope for the future, ‘Musician’ is like a celebration of that hope materializing. It was one of the last songs that I wrote for the album, and it’s honestly a celebration of the album itself. That’s where the title comes from. It’s like, ‘Alright, I’ve found my footing, and I know I can really do this now.’ And I just tried to throw all of my rules away and have as much fun as possible. Ironically enough, this is the least sad song on the album, but this is the song that makes me cry. It’s the fun one. I just sound so happy on that song.”

    Porter Robinson

“Musician” follows previous lauded tracks “Look At The Sky,” which is climbing alternative radio, “Mirror,” “Get Your Wish,” and “Something Comforting.”  All five tracks will appear on Robinson’s upcoming album, Nurture due to be released on April 23 in a number of very special physical formats.  Fans can pre-order the album and merchandise here.

    Porter Robinson – Musician

Opening with euphoric, spliced melodies, “Musician” is a fun, fast-paced release featuring Robinson’s unique production flair. With the artists high-picthed vocals auto-tuned at the forefront and a sample from Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock’s “It Takes Two,” the inspiring track is a celebration of sound to uplift the spirits of audiences worldwide.

“‘Musician’ was one of the very last songs written for Nurture. The song is meant to feel like a celebration like I’m reveling in the joy of newfound inspiration. Porter Robinson unveils the official music video for his latest release, “Look At The Sky” off of his forthcoming album Nurture due out on April 23 via Mom+Pop, which can be pre-ordered here.

Porter Robinson – Look at the Sky

Directed by Chris Muir and choreographed by Matty Peacock, the music video opens with Robinson eloquently performing on a piano as it picks up the pace with the track’s elated melody and lyrics. Robinson is seen singing and dancing alongside an array of ghosts as it pans to a blue sky further emphasizing the track’s message.

“I wanted to represent the things we all contribute to this world, and how they last even after we’re gone. When I make music in a room by myself, I’m not truly working alone—someone else invented the piano, the computer, the software, even the ideas of melody, chord, harmony, and scale. We’re always collaborating with a limitless number of people we don’t know, most of whom aren’t around anymore. We’re all contributing something to the world with our every action, for better or for worse. When we’re gone, let’s hope that the things we leave behind will be useful and beautiful.”  Porter Robinson, creative-director of the video.

“Look At The Sky” will be featured on Porter Robinson’s highly-anticipated new album, Nurture, which will also see  previously released tracks, “Mirror,” “Get Your Wish,” and “Something Comforting.”  The album will be a deeply personal body of work that spans a pressing time in the artist’s life when he suffered from severe anxiety under the pressure of his success to a degree that was creatively crippling.  To pre-order the album and buy its exclusive new merchandise, please visit the following link.

Porter Robinson announces highly-anticipated album, ‘Nurture’

Porter Robinson announces his highly-anticipated forthcoming new album, Nurture will debut on April 23 and is available for pre-order with merchandise via Mom+Pop.

Porter Robinson – Look at the Sky

Marking the first album in seven years, Porter Robinson’s Nurture will feature the highly anticipated new track, “Look At The Sky” which saw its debut during his Secret Sky livestream last May.  The uplifting track emanates with the artist’s radiating vocals that declare, “Look at the sky, I’m still here. I’ll be alive next year. I can make something good.”  Its lyrics make it the perfect sonic offering for any listener to kick-start the new year. The album will also feature previously released tracks, “Mirror, “Get Your Wish,” and “Something Comforting.”

“‘Look at the Sky is fundamentally a song about hope.  There’s no shortage of fuel for despair, but you can’t take meaningful action to improve things if you don’t have some belief that things might get better. That’s what hope is, and I think it’s an emotion worth nourishing. I wrote this song at my lowest point emotionally, when I thought I couldn’t make music anymore, and I wasn’t sure if my existence would have any meaning if I couldn’t make music. In the lyrics, I’m sort of imagining what life would be like once I was on the other side of all that fear and anxiety and sadness. I’m happy to report that it’s amazing on the other side of all this, and I’m so glad I had hope and persisted.”

    Porter Robinson

Nurture is a deeply personal body of work that spans a pressing time in the artist’s life when he suffered from severe anxiety under the pressure of his success to a degree that was creatively crippling. The artist underwent a state of depression which was further exacerbated by his brother’s diagnosis with a rare and aggressive cancer.

Porter Robinson is an acclaimed vocalist, songwriter, and producer who emerged onto the scene in 2010.  His debut album Worlds, released in 2014, peaked at number one on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart.  In 2017, the artist began putting out music under the alias Virtual Self, where he debuted a self-titled EP the same year.  In 2019, the artist earned a Grammy Award nomination for the hit single “Ghost Voices.”  For additional information on Porter Robinson, please visit his official website.

EDM artist Porter Robinson revealed a limited-edition merchandise collection to support his most recent release, “Mirror” off his second forthcoming album Nurture.

The Limited “Mirror” Apparel Capsule is designed by Shun Kinoshita (Nike, Yeezy, Jackie Nickerson) and includes a three-day, limited-run t-shirt, and hoodie, which can be purchased here.

“Mirror” marks the third single to be released off his upcoming album.  The artist has also revealed the tracks “Something Comforting” and “Get Your Wish” with remixes of the track “Get Your Wish” by  DJ NOT PORTER ROBINSON and Anamanaguchi.

“‘Mirror’ is a song about the costs of being hard on yourself. We all have these avatars that we give to our critical inner voices – we might imagine a scornful parent telling us we’ll fail, or a critic telling us our work comes up short, or society telling us that we aren’t good enough – it’s about recognizing that most of this criticism is self-inflicted. For years, I was imagining the worst thing a critic might say about my music and looking at my own work as negatively as possible as a way to protect myself from criticism, but it never once served me. My hope is that other people can overcome this same kind of shame – it can be really liberating to recognize that most of the time, we’re only letting our own thoughts get in the way, and we can do something about it.

Porter Robinson is a North Carolina-based producer and songwriter who burst onto the scene with a specifically magnetic brand of electro-house beats.  The artist has earned widespread acclaim with the debut of his 2014 album Worlds and in 2018, earned a Grammy nomination for his side project Virtual Self’s “Ghost Voices.”
