AVAION in an exclusive interview discussing his music

Dance music artist AVAION is securing his position at the forefront of the dance music industry.  With impeccable work ethic, his music has landed in the Top 50 Apple Music Charts in eight countries while garnering several Spotify Top 100 lists.  The artist has accumulated over 8.1 million music streams and 3.5 million YouTube views while his “Jam Sessions” on social media showcase his innovative approach to making music.

Most recently, the artist layed down his trademark sound with the Protocol Recordings release, “Love Again,” which is currently available to stream/download.  Burning with sentiment and emotion, AVAION’s “Love Again” is an introspective single heightening the artist’s studio mastery, which he describes as a “pure form of my musical character.”

    AVAION – Love Again

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with AVAION in an exclusive interview to find out more about the inspiration behind the single, what his creative process is like in the studio, and what his plans are for the future.  Find out all about AVAION below.

    AVAION in an exclusive interview

You have a recent single out now, titled, “Love Again.” What was your inspiration behind creating the track?  What message are you trying to deliver with it?

“Love Again” is about dealing with bad experiences of relationships from the past and falling in love again. It’s about realizing that a bad experience with one person doesn’t mean it will be the same with a new love. The inspiration for the song comes from a story in my life.

If you had to describe “Love Again” in one word, what would it be and why?

    Melancholic

What is your creative process like in the studio?

I make myself a chamomile tea, sit down in the studio and try to inspire myself with melodies either with the guitar or with synthesizers. There are such and such days. Sometimes, I’m totally in the zone and everything runs super smoothly. Sometimes I get distracted too quickly or lose interest in the song I’ve started. This results in countless unfinished songs, but that is okay. You don’t have to force yourself and do it when you’re really in the mood and flow for it. But, of course, you need a healthy discipline.

What made you want to post your “Jam Sessions” to fans?

I liked the idea of showing the creative process of making a song. So I tried it out and it was very well received.

You are a multi-instrumentalist.  What is your favourite instrument to play? What instrument are you best at?

My favorite of them is the guitar. I really enjoy the sound of good smooth guitar melodies, but I’m better at playing the piano.

Which release in your career are you most proud of and why?

Of course it is “Pieces!”  I always dreamed of getting a platinum record for one of my songs and “Pieces” made that dream come true

Who have been your inspirations to become a DJ and producer?

Even as a child, I always wanted to make whole songs and not just contribute an instrument. Then I came across producing and the art of creating whole songs. I immediately fell in love with it

What advice would you give someone who wants to “breakthrough” in the industry?

Find your style that suits you and that you can identify with. Assert yourself by sticking out and never give up

Which artists/songs/albums have helped you get through the quarantine?

Joji, “First Contact” by Lastlings, WizTheMc, Kaytranada’s Bubba album, Elderbrook, BHZ’s Kiezromantik album

What aspirations do you have for yourself as an artist in the near future?

I have big dreams for the future. I want to make my music and my style successful all over the world and make my name known. There will be some new singles and an album coming out this year that I am looking forward to. Hopefully, the current virus situation will soon subside, and I will finally be able to play concerts.

Any early plans for new music in 2021? We can’t wait to hear fresh material!

There is a chill vibe Remix of my song ‘Love Again’ coming soon and the next new single release is also planned! I’m really excited and proud of the new upcoming single, this will be huge.

We would like to thank AVAION for taking the time to interview. For additional information regarding the artist’s music, please visit his official Spotify page.

  • Utopia Genesis Foundation in an exclusive interview

Utopia Genesis Foundation in an exclusive interview

The Utopia Genesis Foundation is in the midst of changing the music industry.  Its innovative technologies and resources allow artists, managers, record labels, and executives to help market their music more effectively and see how it is influenced in various parts of the world. Not only that, but the data and technologies used also allow artists to collaborate with their fans and help managers plan out upcoming tour schedules.

They are currently on a mission to unlock a more transparent music environment for all involved and have recently promoted the brand with its innovative livestream events.  Playing host to some of the most revered artists in dance music including Carl Cox, Steve Aoki, Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi among numerous others, Utopia Genesis Foundation is well on its way to making an indelible mark on the music business.

We had the immense pleasure of having the opportunity to speak with Hatem Hachana, COO of the Utopia Genesis Foundation, to learn more about what their services provide and how they aim to change the music industry that we now know.

How does the Utopia Genesis Foundation provide technologies and resources to help the advancement of the music industry?

Utopia Genesis Foundation will first work to provide every stakeholder in the music industry with the technologies and resources required to improve how revenue streams are tracked, traced, and processed. Members of the Foundation will have open access to industry-leading data to understand consumption trends, insights, and more through a self-service portal.

As we continue building out our offering, we’ve started working closely with leading blockchain technology solutions like STOKR and Terra Virtua to launch gateways for artists, songwriters, producers, record labels, performance and artist rights organizations (PRO) to collaborate with fans on commercial projects.

These are a few examples of the suite of tools that the Foundation aims to bring to market.

Which area of the music industry is currently performing best amidst the COVID-19 pandemic?

Streaming platforms have been really the only area of the music industry that saw immense success during COVID-19. Spotify now has 30% more paid subscribers than in 2019. While streaming platforms are raking in money during the pandemic, it is raising concerns about artists being underpaid for their work. This is one of the main missions of Utopia, to ensure that artists are paid fairly for their work in the industry and do not lose major portions of their payment to the industry giants.

What kind of data do you provide record labels with to selectively plan out their artist tours?

Record labels are able to easily access geographic consumption data from more than 150 countries through the Utopia Genesis Foundation. This data is so valuable as labels will be able to plan their artist’s tours more selectively as they can see where the artist is succeeding and is wanted by fans.

How do artist applications help to optimize and streamline releases for promotion?

Artists and owners of the music will be able to sell a share of their work’s copyright revenue to the community, and the UOP will then be able to provide the music consumption data in order to keep track of the song.

How did your partnership with STOKR come about?

STOKR is the best platform and the only one that is able to create security tokens. It is also the only company in Europe with the proper license to do so. Utopia Genesis Foundation knew it was a good idea to team up with the best from the start!

You have hosted a slew of top electronic music artists including Carl Cox, Steve Aoki, Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi among numerous others to perform for your livestream events. Do these artists currently use Utopia Genesis Foundation’s information and resources?

Unfortunately, we cannot say who, but some of these artists have requested and received the data regarding the players of their songs, and also found out which radio stations and where in the world their songs were being played. It was very interesting because in some instances these famous artists had no idea which song of theirs was most played on radio stations and also were shocked by which countries they were more popular in!

Can you reveal any upcoming artists who will be performing next on the livestream series?

Right now, we are working on connecting mid-sized artists to Utopia Genesis Foundation. We also want to continue to promote the artists that we have already collaborated with.

How are you planning to grow the Utopia Genesis Foundation initiative?

We will show everyone involved in the music industry that we are here to help all involved and we also want to make it profitable for everyone. We will do this by opening up opportunities for artists to offer fans the opportunity to be investors in their music together with the labels.

What are the near/distant goals for the Utopia Genesis Foundation?

We want to create the largest music exchange platform so every fan can own a piece of their favorite artist or song. By allowing fans the opportunity to invest in their favorite artist– be it by song ownership, merch, or tour ownership, both fans, the artist, and the record label will all receive revenue.

The Utopia Genesis Foundation will also be launching multiple applications on the Utopia Open Platform, like the Genesis Application which will allow artists to sell a share of their work’s copyright revenue, the release of insight which will allow for data visualization and the release of the Toplist. The toplist is a list of different top songs on radio stations which will depend on the genre, location, etc. Artists will be able to see how they are performing in select areas or in select genres to better understand the performance of their music.

By using these applications and data, the Utopia Genesis Foundation aims to unlock a more transparent and open music ecosystem for all involved.

For additional information regarding the Utopia Genesis Foundation and its services, please visit its official website.

  • David Puentez in an exclusive interview discussing his single, ‘Banana’

David Puentez in an exclusive interview discussing his single, ‘Banana’

Rising electronic music artist David Puentez has been turning heads since the start of his career.  He has built a dedicated fan base of over 2 million listeners and most recently scored big with the hit track, “Banana” which is currently available to stream/download now via Warner Music

    David Puentez – Banana

Since 2020 began, Puentez has been making a defining impact on the dance music industry with the singles, “LaLaLife” which amassed over 7 million streams on Spotify alone, and “I’m Gone.”  He also saw success with Warner Music on the hit track “Superstar” with Albert Neve which garnered an impressive 25 million streams since its release back in April.

In addition to all of this, the Cologne-based producer has provided his trademark sound on remixes for artists that include Post Malone, Tiësto, Rita Ora, and Jonus Blue.

We had the immense pleasure of being able to speak with David Puentez in an exclusive interview about his most recent hit single, “Banana”  and his journey to dance music’s top.

    David Puentez Interview

David Puentez in an exclusive interview

You have a new single out titled, “Banana” which is currently out now via Warner Music.  What makes you go “Bananas?”

I think when I have too much espresso, I can go straight bananas. 😃 I am an espresso lover so that can happen quite often!

You said that the track delivers a message of not taking yourself too seriously.  How have you been able to apply that in your own life?

That’s true, a few months ago, I went around the city of Cologne wearing a full-body size T-rex costume.  It was sooooo much fun! Life is all about having fun, and I try to live up to that every single day.

What advice would you give to anyone aspiring to get on a major label, similar to what you have achieved?

It was a long way, but in the end, it’s about the music and your vision. Warner saw a lot of potential to help me with my next steps, and we are still not finished yet. Just work hard on your music, style, and socials and build your own little system.

You have managed to build an impressive fan base. What advice would you give to an artist trying to “breakthrough” in the dance music industry?

You need the right song and you need to have a strong and loyal fan base who love what you do. This can take ages to build, but it’s worth the time. Everything goes by so fast today and has a fast pace in life, so it’s essential to have something built that is really strong and lasts much longer than any hype or trend.

Aside from music, what has kept you sane during this pandemic?

Definitely TikTok – such a fun place 😃

What’s been the hardest part of being off the road during this time? The best part?

For sure the live gigs and club shows I am missing a lot. The best part was to finally have time for my family.

Where are you most looking forward to performing when things go “back to normal?” and Why?

The United States is where I have always had some of the best shows in my whole life. Great energy and people were very receptive to it. I would love to tour there again hopefully soon!

Thus far in your career, which track are you most proud of? and Why?

“Superstar,” my very first record that spent almost 10 months across Germany radio on rotation.

You have remixed for an impressive roster of artists (Tiesto, Rita Ora, Post Malone). Who would you like to work/collaborate with in the future?

TIESTO!!!!!! He is such a nice person and a great artist. A collab would be another dream coming true.

What aspirations do you have for yourself as an artist in the near/distant future?

A lot of new music and some collabs for 2021, it’s all about the music for the next year and maybe finally playing some shows again!

We would like to thank David Puentez for talking to us in an exclusive interview. For the most up-to-date news on the artist, please visit his official Facebook Page.

EDMunplugged had the pleasure to sit down with Plastik Funk in an exclusive interview after seeing his new-for-2020 capsule collection for the first time.

Plastik Funk in an exclusive interview

What made you initially decide to create your own clothing line?  What was the inspiration behind it?

We had merchandise for the last two years, and the merchandise was doing really well, but it was more to get fans a shirt. I always had in mind to create something which is more of a clothing line, a bit more special, a bit more love into the details. And during quarantine time I had a bit more time to work on stuff I never really had time to. My problem is, I always try to do things myself. I never give it to a team, because if I give something to the fans, it has to be me. So, it’s always a time problem when I want to finish projects. I was sitting together with one of the designers of Donna Roma and he was telling me everything he did before, and he showed me the shirts they just created. They were amazing.

They talked to me about doing a sponsorship, but then I was like, “Okay let’s do something together.” I brought some of my favorite clothes because I’m not a fashion designer.  He created the first designs, and I was so happy with it. He really nailed it right away. And then we were just working a whole night and the first clothing was there.

I wanted to keep it basic for the beginning. I want to build it up step-by-step. Right now it’s shirts and hoodies, which is good for the winter for events if we can go back to events. And after this, we will start with jackets. We will also do jogging pants and other stuff, but I want to do it step-by-step. I don’t want to do a catalog, and you don’t really see the little details in the beginning.

The 2020 clothing line was created with the creative team behind WorkiT. How did that collaboration come about?

They created a brand, which is called Donna Roma Perez, and the brand name was sponsoring me before .I was talking to the one guy, his name is Sabias, who said like, ‘I’m the designer.’ And I was like, ‘All right. Let’s meet up.

I was together with the team. The team is great. They’re creative, they’re very good, organized. We curated a nice and basic store, which really shows you everything in no time. And yeah, it’s just fun to work with them.

You said that your favorite piece from the collection was the hoodie?

Actually, I liked the thin hoodie with the icon on the back. I really like those. Every time we do something, it’s the same with music, I try to test it. I’m kind of a perfectionist with stuff like that, and I did the same with the clothes.  Sometimes you see people go crazy and the one with “Funk You Very Much,” the hoodie people were going crazy over. The “Funk You Very Much” hoodie, we have quite a lot of pre-orders already.

Plastik Funk - Funk You Very Much - Hoodie
Plastik Funk – Funk You Very Much – Hoodie

If you had to describe the collection in one word, what would it be and why?

Funky. I could not use a different word than funky. Right?

The thing is I wanted to do merchandise. We try to work with my team to support the whole team around me by taking pictures, creating the merch, selling the merch, because obviously at the moment, most of the people in my industry are not making any money. It’s a pretty tough time. What we do is we try to create projects, which help ourselves, but also help other people. Especially with sticking with our team and then trying to make it bigger all around the world.

You have some catchy slogans, “Funk the World,” “Funky You Very Much.” How did you come up with the slogans? Did you create that yourself or was the team involved?

Most of the time it happened during interviews. The “Funk You Very Much” happened in an interview in Brazil. The guy on the radio always said, “Ha ha. Fuck you very much.” And we said, “Okay, that’s not nice to say on the radio. You should say funk you very much.” And I started laughing. So “Funk You Very Much” has been following us since then, and that was 10 years ago.

The Funk Family thing actually came up by the fans. I saw the hashtag #FunkFamily so many times which made me so happy to see…These people are the most important people for me to get the energy, to go through all this, to travel, to work on music, to sleep. But every time I’m on stage, I’m the happiest person on Earth. To the people who call themselves, Funk Family is the greatest feeling, you can have. To have your fans as a family, that’s amazing.

We can’t talk to you without talking about your music.  Do you have any new music coming out in the future? Maybe in 2021?

Yeah, this year we already released more music than we ever released in one year. I just had a release last week on Hexagon, which is doing really, really well actually. And we’re releasing a club mix of “Feet Don’t Touch,” which was released in November.  In January, I’m releasing a remix and a new mixed mash on Revealed. I’m releasing a collaboration with Nicola Fasano on Revealed. And yeah, we’re almost done with a follow-up collaboration with NERVO, which will be out very soon, hopefully. We’re just clearing the rights because it’s a rework again. And yeah, I have another six, seven trucks ready, and we just see when and how to release it.

Plastik Funk & Inpetto – Lost [Hexagon] Stream/Download

You have provided remixes for David Guetta, Shaggy, and deadmau5 and worked with Tujamo, NERVO, and Firebeatz.  If there is anyone that you would still like to work or collaborate with?

Actually, I love Pharrell Williams as an artist because I love the way he is as a musician, but he’s an artist in so many ways. I like that he’s a rapper, he’s a singer, a writer, a producer, a drummer. He has so many different projects. I love his creativity.

And for me, I love to step out of my dance music EDM box sometimes and just do something totally different. So I would love to work with someone like Pharrell Williams and just be in a studio and watch and see how he works and how his creative process is working. To create a track together would be a dream.

What’s been the hardest part about being off the road during this time? What has been the best part?

Actually, for my body, it’s been maybe the healthiest year in 10 years. That’s for sure. I’m doing a lot of sports at the moment about five to six times a week.

For me, it’s tough to not be on the road. This is not a job; it’s pure passion.

It was a healthy year. But with the other side, it’s tough to realize sometimes that you don’t know when this whole thing will end. For me, it’s music. It’s trying to stay in my workflow, trying to be creative, try to do new merchandise, new clothing, I’m even creating a new coffee with some partners believe it or not.

Where are you most looking forward to performing when things go “back to normal?” and Why?

Actually, at the moment, I really don’t care. It can be 100 people, 50 people, and I will be super happy and enjoy every minute of it.

I really, really miss it. And I can’t wait to go back. I mean, sure Asia is one of my biggest markets, but I can’t wait to travel the world again. I mean, last year it’s been a blessing and an amazing year. I played 190 shows and I was everywhere.  I want to go back to every country, play everywhere, and just have a good time with the Funk Family.

What aspirations do you have for yourself as an artist in the near/distant future?

At the moment I feel like I found my sound I’m really, really happy with, and I want to bring this to the next level. I just did more Reggae music lately which is super fun. And it feels like I’m getting more creative with writing as well because a couple of years ago, I was only the producer, but never really the writer.  Now I got more into writing, which is a lot of fun. You’re like part of the whole song. I want to get better at this. I want to become a better musician and my DJ skills always try to get better and better. So I can’t wait to test it out again.

  • Bear Grillz in an exclusive interview discussing, ‘Friends: The Album’

Bear Grillz in an exclusive interview discussing, ‘Friends: The Album’

Acclaimed EDM artist Bear Grillz recently called upon some of his closest friends and collaborators to deliver his long-awaited sophomore LP titled, Friends: The Album, which is currently out now via Dim Mak.

In an attempt to maintain meaningful connections while in isolation due to the pandemic, the artist invited everyone from longtime collaborators Atarii and Bok Nero to old friends he always wanted to work with including Dion Timmer and Tisoki to create the LP.  Friends: The Album revitalizes the concept of his Bear Grillz & Friends collaborative EPs, which saw their debut a decade ago and were immediately embraced by fans and the world.  The highly-anticipated release pays homage to the start of his career while also providing a much needed creative outlet.

Touching upon a vast spectrum of genres, Friends: The Album features hints of reggae-pop on “Give Em What” with Iration, to high-charged bass on “Run It” with  Riot Ten featuring Bok Nero.   The album even takes on a softer tone with the opening track, “Where We Are” with Adventure Club and JT Roach.  Showcasing the artist’s diverse range in production ability, Friends: The Album resonates with the recurring theme that friends can accomplish anything together.

Therefore, it gave us great pleasure to interview Bear Grillz about his recent album, how it all came about, and what his aspirations are in the near and distant future.

An exclusive interview with Bear Grillz discussing Friends: The Album

What made you want to revitalize the concept of your Bear Grillz & Friends collaborative EPs with this album?

It all started when I did a B2B performance with Adventure Club at EDC Orlando in the summer of 2019. We talked about finally making a track, but It’s always hard to collaborate when you’re on the road non-stop. When the pandemic hit, I thought it was the best time to get something going. I set out to make an EP, but because everyone was at home, it became the album that it is today.

Friends: The Album features collaborations with Iration, Adventure Club, Blunts & Blondes, and Dion Timmer.  Did you purposely choose a diverse range of artists to work with to create the album or did it all come together organically?

Yes and no. I wanted to continue to build off the diversity of the Demons album. I never really thought I could get a track with Iration but it happened…maybe I’m still in disbelief.

I always try to make the bigger bodies of work appeal to a larger crowd. If I made a dubstep album of just 12 bangers I think it would sound pretty redundant.

What is the creative process like for you in the studio when creating tracks?

It starts with inspiration, hearing certain sounds or being inspired by someone else’s creation. I love finding music that inspires me to push myself in different directions.

Which track are you most proud of from the album? Why?

I am proud of them all. They’re like little babies—you can never favor one over the other.

How are you planning to promote the album without being able to perform it live? Will there be any special live-streams to look forward to?

Yes, there is a special live stream that I can’t mention yet. 🙂

If you had to describe the album in one word, what would it be and why?

LOVE. Nothing but love made this album happen between myself and my friends. I hope that fans receive it the same way.

You open the album with a collaboration alongside Adventure Club & JT Roach titled “Where We Are.” Where would you say you are right now as a music artist?

I like to think I’m still figuring out my identity. I’m trying to get somewhere in the bass music world while still being know to release all kinds of genres. It’s always a process of growth and evolution.

What has been the best and worst thing for you during this pandemic?

The best thing was being at home for this extended period to sort of regroup my personal life. Being able to do the things I didn’t get to do. Eat healthy, get the necessary amount of sleep.

The worst thing was being at home for this extended period. Hahaha JK. But after a while, I just got antsy and wanted to play some shows and get back on the road. I wish there was a way to find that perfect balance.

What aspirations do you have in the future? Is there anybody new you would like to collaborate with?

I definitely have a list of people that I hope to work with in the future. I also want to put out a heavy/old school sounding proper dubstep EP in 2021. I have a couple of other Bear Grillz themed helmets that I want to bring out. Hopefully, it all happens in 2021.

Thank you for the interview. Hope you guys enjoy the album <3

DJ Mag reveals its 2020 Top 100 DJs poll results

DJ Mag unveiled the 2020 Top 100 DJs poll results in a live-stream broadcast at Amsterdam Music Festival on Nov. 7 via AMFTV.

The 2020 World’s #1 DJ crowning champion went to legendary electronic music veteran David Guetta who jumped two spots from last year’s poll and marks the artist’s second win in his career.  He also won the title 10 years ago in 2011.  The win could be attributed to Guetta’s recent dedication to producing dance records this year instead of pop tracks.  The artist has introduced a new #FutureRave sound with fellow producer MORTEN.

The second position went to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike who went down one position, since being champions last year.  The third spot went to STMPD RCRDS founder Martin Garrix, who went down from the #2 position last year, while the fourth position stayed the same with Armin van Buuren and the fifth position went to ALOK who rose six positions.

This year, Amsterdam Music Festival teamed-up with DJ Mag to announce this year’s winners in a Top 100 DJs awards show.   The show featured headlining performances by David Guetta, Don Diablo, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, and Armin van Buuren from landmark locations across Amsterdam.

DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll is an annual public vote to reveal the world’s most popular DJs. Nearly 1.3 million votes were cast from almost every country in the world, making it a fraction below last year’s record-breaking total. • David Guetta crowned World’s #1 DJ by the 2020 DJ Mag poll

David Guetta crowned World’s #1 DJ by the 2020 DJ Mag poll

David Guetta has been crowned the World’s #1 DJ by DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll.  The world-renowned French DJ/producer was presented his award during Amsterdam Music Festival’s virtual award show on AMFTV

“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. To think it is 40 years since I first played in a club, and 10 years since I last won this award makes me quite emotional. When I first won 9 years ago I got a lot of hate for merging dance music with mainstream and pop and looking back now and seeing how it has shaped the industry and made it evolve is absolutely crazy. Winning now after I’ve gone back to what I did originally and releasing more underground music with my friend MORTEN and Future Rave, and with Jack Back, makes it even more special. I owe everything to my fans and whatever the future brings, I’ll be there, ready to soundtrack the party, and I hope you will too.”

    David Guetta

Despite the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 1.3 million votes were cast from just about every country on earth, only a fraction below last year’s record-breaking total.  The Top 100 DJs Virtual Festival series garnered 8.3 million viewers who tuned in to see 95 different DJ sets during the Top 100 DJs voting period.  The virtual festival also supported a cause and received almost £9,000 in Unicef donations.

During his acceptance speech, Guetta stressed how the electronic music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and made a call to governments worldwide.

“It is not just the artists but also the hard-working local residents, security teams, promoters and technicians around the world who have made dance music such a huge and thriving industry that demands respect on all levels. But right now, more needs to be done. Our industry has been hit extremely hard this year. Millions have lost work, and governments around the world have failed to acknowledge the importance of the music and entertainment industries. They require support just like any other. Culture cannot be put on the back burner. Governments need to take action.”

This marks the second crowning of the world-renowned title for David Guetta following what has been a monumental year for the artist.  He has placed a heavier focus on creating dance music tracks with his #FutureRave sound and hopes to ignite dancefloors around the world once everyone is allowed to rave again. Guetta also received the No. 1 DJ title a decade ago in 2011.

Amsterdam Music Festival 2020 joined forces with DJ Mag to present this year’s Top 100 DJs awards show.

Voting closed on Sept. 23, 2020, following a series of Virtual Festivals that were broadcast every weekend between July 18 and Sept. 20 via DJ Mag’s YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.

  • Co-Founder of Armada Music and ALDA David Lewis joins forces with Aga Heller to form brand new agency Frills

Co-Founder of Armada Music and ALDA David Lewis joins forces with Aga Heller to form brand new agency Frills

Frills, a brand-new electronic music agency, has been launched in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district by Co-Founder of Armada Music and ALDA, David Lewis.

With a promise to shake up the landscape of today’s House, Techno & Electronic scene, Frills will be putting together a team of specialists in artist development to offer a multi-faceted range of services. From bookings, marketing and brand creation, to business affairs, consulting, record label management, and event production, the company intends to take a holistic approach to artist management.

David Lewis has teamed-up with Aga Heller on the venture who has led the booking team of Solomun’s Diynamic roster of artists before going on to manage the global event series HYTE.

“We forge and nurture relationships with electronic music artists based on trust, friendship, integrity, honesty, transparency, and loyalty. Our primary focus is to help artists develop their profiles and personalities by providing customized concepts and services. 2020 has proven to us that artists and their team needs to be adaptable now more than ever. Traditional structures of manager, agent, PR, and social media teams are expensive, slow, and outdated. We’re redefining that by bringing everything under one roof so we can work on the big picture – applying resources where they’re needed in relation to an artist’s career in a dynamic, fluid, and efficient way. This allows us to bring value in a way that traditional agencies cannot.

Our method is anything but conventional.  We opened our office one week before COVID-19 shut down the entire global events industry! But that means we’ve been able to structure our team and processes from the ground up, without relying on anyone artist to influence the overall direction of the roster. We want to announce our partnerships with artists gradually to reflect our approach to building the company – selecting every artist for their individual merits, sharing their objectives as partners, team members, and friends. We want to nurture every aspect of an artists’ career and that involves a commitment from both parties that goes deeper than fleeting trends or overnight social media success. House and Techno are labels, but we operate beyond the borders of genres. We want to help shape the next generation of electronic music for decades to come, from behind the scenes, in the booth, and on the dancefloor.”

    Aga Heller, Co-founder of Frills

Leading the booking department for Frills will be Catherine Stoy whose 15-year career spans stints with Richie Hawtin’s former M-nus bookings roster at Clonk Artist Booking.  She most recently was the booking agent for Temporary Secretary, representing Dixon, Âme and others.

Frills is a full-service agency that follows the fundamental principle of putting the “artist first,” employing a team of like-minded, passionate experts, who are, most importantly, “real ravers by heart.
