Dutch DJ/producer Avalon announced the release of a brand-new track titled, “World We Know” which is currently available to stream at the following link.
The track, which recently saw its premiere at the opening of the 2020 Amsterdam Music Festival, was inspired by Avalon in the midst of challenging times when the global pandemic hit. The track was created to describe the feeling of being quarantined and the lack of freedom that the world was faced to confront. Avalon performed the track to an empty Johan Cruijff ArenA in a live-stream during the reveal of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll that garnered seven million spectators worldwide.
The Festival Mix (Official AMF 2020 Anthem) will be available worldwide on November 20.
Valentijn Hoogwerf, better known by his stage name Avalan, is a Dutch DJ, producer, and vocalist. The artist emerged onto the scene in 2018 at Amsterdam Music Festival with an impressive live set. The artist then went on to collaborate with Armin van Burren on the worldwide hit track, “Sucker for Love” in 2019. The track has since been featured on van Buuren’s most recent album, Balance, and became such a huge hit that Avalon went on tour alongside van Buuren right before the pandemic hit. The festival worked in collaboration with DJ Mag to announce the 2020 Top 100 DJs where several prizes were awarded, among them was the title for the number one DJ in the world. DJ Mag unveiled the 2020 Top 100 DJs poll results in a live-stream broadcast at Amsterdam Music Festival on Nov. 7 via AMFTV.
The 2020 World’s #1 DJ crowning champion went to legendary electronic music veteran David Guetta who jumped two spots from last year’s poll and marks the artist’s second win in his career. He also won the title 10 years ago in 2011. The win could be attributed to Guetta’s recent dedication to producing dance records this year instead of pop tracks. The artist has introduced a new #FutureRave sound with fellow producer MORTEN.
The second position went to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike who went down one position, since being champions last year. The third spot went to STMPD RCRDS founder Martin Garrix, who went down from the #2 position last year, while the fourth position stayed the same with Armin van Buuren and the fifth position went to ALOK who rose six positions.
This year, Amsterdam Music Festival teamed-up with DJ Mag to announce this year’s winners in a Top 100 DJs awards show. The show featured headlining performances by David Guetta, Don Diablo, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, and Armin van Buuren from landmark locations across Amsterdam.

David Guetta has been crowned the World’s #1 DJ by DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll. The world-renowned French DJ/producer was presented his award during Amsterdam Music Festival’s virtual award show on AMFTV.
“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. To think it is 40 years since I first played in a club, and 10 years since I last won this award makes me quite emotional. When I first won 9 years ago I got a lot of hate for merging dance music with mainstream and pop and looking back now and seeing how it has shaped the industry and made it evolve is absolutely crazy. Winning now after I’ve gone back to what I did originally and releasing more underground music with my friend MORTEN and Future Rave, and with Jack Back, makes it even more special. I owe everything to my fans and whatever the future brings, I’ll be there, ready to soundtrack the party, and I hope you will too.”
David Guetta
Despite the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 1.3 million votes were cast from just about every country on earth, only a fraction below last year’s record-breaking total. The Top 100 DJs Virtual Festival series garnered 8.3 million viewers who tuned in to see 95 different DJ sets during the Top 100 DJs voting period. The virtual festival also supported a cause and received almost £9,000 in Unicef donations.
During his acceptance speech, Guetta stressed how the electronic music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic and made a call to governments worldwide.
“It is not just the artists but also the hard-working local residents, security teams, promoters and technicians around the world who have made dance music such a huge and thriving industry that demands respect on all levels. But right now, more needs to be done. Our industry has been hit extremely hard this year. Millions have lost work, and governments around the world have failed to acknowledge the importance of the music and entertainment industries. They require support just like any other. Culture cannot be put on the back burner. Governments need to take action.”
This marks the second crowning of the world-renowned title for David Guetta following what has been a monumental year for the artist. He has placed a heavier focus on creating dance music tracks with his #FutureRave sound and hopes to ignite dancefloors around the world once everyone is allowed to rave again. Guetta also received the No. 1 DJ title a decade ago in 2011.
