Skrillex, Fred Again… & Four Tet take over NYC

Madison Square Garden erupted Saturday night as Skrillex, Fred Again… and Four Tet took the stage in a five hour back to back rave on February 18.

Entering the dimly lit Madison Square Garden, the venue pulsated with an eclectic mix of tracks to complement the diverse audience of fans young and old. With far less focus on who was on stage performing than there was on the music and experience, the trio dished raw raucous energy that ebbed and flowed in continuity with the evening’s melodies and beats.

Combining releases from Skrillex’s most recently released album, Quest For Fire, the artist blasted hip-hop leaning tracks like the collaboration with Missy Elliott, “RATATA” and Flowdan’s “Hydrate” to the melodic, “Leave Me Like This.”  The artist further laced his set with some old-time classics that also included, “Bang-a-Rang” and Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction,” which sent the audience into an uproar.

Further surprising fans that evening, Skrillex dropped his second album this week titled Don’t Get Too Close, which culminated his onslaught of releases since last year. The album sees the producer take on a more pop-centered focus featuring  the likes of Justin Bieber, Kid Cudi, Swae Lee, and more.

Accentuating the monumental evening Fred Again…  collaborated on stage and showcased some of his defining dance music hits toward the latter end of the evening. Having become one one of the most sought after figures in the dance music scene with the release of his personal LP series Actual Life, the artist featured some his most recent hits that include “‘Turn On The Lights again..” with Swedish House Mafia, “Jungle,” “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing),” and “Billie (Loving Arms).”  The duo also performed their highly anticipated collaborative smash, “Rumble” not just once but twice played throughout their alternating sets.

Alternating on the decks throughout the performance the artists held the audience in the palms of their hands by interspersing hard hitting beats and lasers to slowing the pace with enchanting lights and soft vocals. The artists appeared to be having just as much fun on stage as everyone was in the arena dancing making it an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Madison Square performance marks the end of a series of performances in New York City this week, which included a surprise Valentine’s Day pop up at Good Room, a larger party on Thursday at Le Poisson Rouge, and a massive live set in the middle of Times Square for The Lot Radio on Friday.

Diplo remixes Fred again’s ‘Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)’

After releasing “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)” with The Blessed Madonna back in February, Fred again.. enlists Grammy-Award-winning producer Diplo to provide a stellar remix of the track that is available to stream/download now via Warner Music.

Fred again.. feat. The Blessed Madonna – Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing) [Diplo Remix]

Opening with a pulsating beat and the voice of dance music icon The Blessed Madonna in the distance, Diplo provides a driving techno-infused remix of Fred again’s original “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing).” Paired with a nostalgic video that depicts crowded raves and venues, the concept of the track was written amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and is an ode to the things we take for granted in life.

Marea and I met in Palestine around 5 years ago now. I call her my rave shaman. I think she’s that for a lot of other people too, to be honest! Her ability to tell stories and share things has always been a particularly beautiful part of her beautiful mind, so I guess it makes sense that I ended up making a song out of sampling one of our conversations! She’s a real hug of a human.”

Fred again.. – Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)

Kicking off with the voice of dance music icon Marea Stamper aka The Blessed Madonna, “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing” is a nostalgic house cut that is an ode to the things we take for granted in life. With the concept of the track written amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the release evokes an optimistic message to take life one day at a time.

“Marea and I met in Palestine around 5 years ago now. I call her my rave shaman. I think she’s that for a lot of other people too, to be honest! Fred again..

“Right from the second I met Fred there was a real closeness, and even though I didn’t know him at all, I always felt like, ‘this is gonna be a person in my life.’ On this particular night in lockdown, Fred asked how I was feeling and I just talked to him like I normally would. Somehow he digs in all my babble and makes it into something beautiful and personal. Fred is a singular artist. He had such a tender way of looking at sound. You can’t fake it. You gotta have real heart. No one has a heart like that.”

Co-produced by Boston Bun, “Marea (We Lost Dancing)” is the latest in a series of Actual Life releases from Fred again.. which also includes the tracks, “Julia (Deep Diving)”, “Jessie (I Miss You)” and “Kyle (I Found You).”  All tracks encompass a signature sound that sees the artist build tracks around vocals uncovered from the unlikeliest of sources.  This ranges from obscure YouTube clips to personal FaceTime conversations, random Instagram accounts, and iPhone video footage of half-remembered nights out.
