Felix Cartal releases fourth album, ‘Expensive Sounds For Nice People’

Platinum-selling producer Felix Cartal releases his fourth studio album, Expensive Sounds For Nice People, which is available to stream/download now via Physical Presents.

Spanning a range of stunning collaborations and solo productions, Expensive Sounds For Nice People is a 16-track body of work of dance-pop perfection.  Featuring a number of previous hit releases that include the platinum-selling single “Get What You Give,” “Too Late,” “The Life,” “Only One” with Karen Harding, “Mine” with Sophie Simmons, “Happy Hour” ft. Kiiara, and “Love Me,” the album is a true testament to Cartal’s ability to craft an astonishing array of catchy, upbeat, and deep soundscapes.

My fourth album Expensive Sounds For Nice People is part of the second musical chapter in my life. My first two albums were the first chapter of my musical career: a scrappier, undeveloped, experimental phase where a lot of the ideas didn’t quite get executed how I would want from lack of skill or know-how. I’m still fond of that time and those releases but was ultimately frustrated that I couldn’t make what I wanted come to life exactly how I heard it in my head. The other big problem from that era was consistency, and basically, that’s what I’ve become obsessed with. Growing up arguably through one of the worst eras of one-hit-wonders in musical history, I remember constantly being disappointed when I bought an album and there was only one good song. I hated that. And I think remembering that has guided me into this second chapter of my life. Where I’ve just tried to grind it out daily at the studio and work on my skills, and trying to become more consistent. I’m more into the ‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’ chef approach nowadays, where I just try to log hours every day to refine my craft. Not too concerned with the result from that specific day but knowing that if I stack those hours I will in fact improve. I want every song to be 100% something I’m proud of, or it’s not coming out.

Dance music mogul Steve Aoki teams-up with pop superstar Kiiara and Grammy-nominated recording artist Wiz Kahlifa to reimagine a Matchbox Twenty hit with the new single “Used To Be” available to stream/download via Big Beat Records.

Steve Aoki & Kiiara – Used To Be (feat. Wiz Khalifa)

Featuring the dazzling vocals of Kiiara paired with the hip-hop spitting lyrics of Wiz Khalifa, “Used To Be” transforms Matchbox Twenty’s sensational hit “Unwell” into a star-studded genre-defying collaboration.  Steve Aoki showcases his boundary-crossing ability by seamlessly modifying the original into a perfectly crafted melodic dance-pop production. With familiar lyrics declaring, ”I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell,” audiences will be able to sing-along to the revival of the timeless classic.

Directed by Noah Sterling and animated by Dreambear, the track’s accompanying music video sees Steve Aoki, Kiiara, and Wiz Khalifa join together to free a galactic city from an evil villain. Felix Cartal & Kiiara reveal music video for ‘Happy Hour’

Platinum-selling producer Felix Cartal and Kiiara team-up to reveal the official music video for their dance-pop release, “Happy Hour” which is available to download/stream via Physical Presents.

Felix Cartal – Happy Hour (with Kiiara)

To coincide with the title of the track, the music video sees Felix Cartal enjoying a special at a bar and traverses an evening of debauchery fueled by reckless decisions.  Featuring karaoke singing, spray painting, and swimming in an underground pool, the video has all of the trademark signs of an unforgettable night.  The visual becomes the perfect pairing to the track’s fun-loving energy.

“The energy of the song is so go-go-go that the visuals we created had to be on the same level. We decided the best move for this was to create a simple surreal narrative because we could take the viewer anywhere and it didn’t need to make sense; as long as the world looked cool, we were on the right track.”

    Director Kasey Lum

“Kasey and I have been making videos together since the beginning of both of our artistic careers. I believe the first thing we did was around 2011, possibly even earlier. I always feel fortunate that I’m able to create art for a living, but it’s even better to create art with your friends for a living. That being said, the hardest part of videos is getting them to match the mood of the song, and I feel like this one does that better than anything we’ve done before.”

Felix Cartal & Kiiara release ‘Happy Hour’

DJ/producer Felix Cartal teams-up with Kiiara to release a brand-new single “Happy Hour” which is currently available to download/stream via Physical Presents.

    Felix Cartal – Happy Hour

Opening with the uplifting vocals of songstress Kiiara, “Happy Hour” is a pop-infused dance record that is both irresistibly catchy and inspiring.  The joyous release marks Felix Cartal’s first track of 2021 and hints at what is to come from in the coming year.

The idea and lyrics for this song were created during a writing session in Norway. I think my time in Scandinavia was really beneficial to my songwriting process because they have this effortless approach to pop writing. We had a breakthrough when we started thinking of juxtaposing ‘Happy Hour’ with darker lyrics. It kind of all fell together once we figured out how to attack it, and I dub it my ‘uplifting loser anthem.’ It felt sort of pop, but sort of unconventional, and to have Kiiara feature on it was unreal because I felt that her pop music has that same unpredictable quality.

    Felix Cartal

“Felix and I have been meaning to work together on an original song of our own for years. I’ve always been a fan of his work. I remember him sending me a remix of my song ‘Feels’ a few years back and I was blown away. I’m really excited about our new song ‘Happy Hour.’ It’s a melodramatic emo anthem (lol that’s both of our specialties).”
