LP Giobbi shines in New York City on ‘Light Places’ tour

New York City was brimming with positive energy as a multitude of concertgoers flocked to see a headlining set from piano house queen LP Giobbi at the Knockdown Center in Queens on Saturday, November 18.

Establishing herself as more than just a producer and DJ, LP Giobbi delivered an uplifting and energetic performance that was all-encompassing.  The riveting experience sent the crowd into a dancing frenzy as she injected vocal samples, performed the piano live, and shook the stage with her signature tracks off her recent Light Places album.

The artist kicked off her performance with the iconic vocal sample of Sophie Hawley-Weld from Sofi Tukker in the joint LP Giobbi album collaboration, “All My Life.”  Enveloping the crowd with gorgeous piano melodies, the artist seamlessly infused vocal samples from Goose’s Reimagined mix of “All I Need.”  The artist picked up the pace with other notable releases, “Follow the Loop” “Forever and a Day” and her most recent release titled, “Waiting” off of Diplo’s Higher Ground label which skyrocketed the energy of the crowd to another level.

Joining the artist on stage was vocalist Caroline Byrne performing, “Feels Just Like It” and further adding to her set was opening act Bad Snacks who performed a spellbinding performance on the violin as LP Giobbi shined on the decks to a burgeoning climax of “Georgia.”

The electrifying concert continued with her release off her new Yes Yes Yes imprint with Defected Records, “Time Expands” and closing out her set was the LP Giobbi Club Edits of “All In A Dream,” “Can’t Let You Go,” “Free” (Do What U Want) and her remix of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer.” The refreshing display of talent left the audience gratified for being able to witness it all first-hand live.

Light Places which was released back in May showcases the depth and versatility of the artist and transcends the dance music genre by merging elements of soul with enveloping bass lines, piano insttrumentals, guitar riffs, and emotive vocals. The album is loaded with an array of LP Giobbi’s most distinguished releases that have accumulated millions of streams on Spotify.

The artist is currently on tour to support her most recent album, Light Places in addition to hosting a series of afterparties to support her new imprint, Yes Yes Yes launching on Defected Records.  It is no surprise that the in-demand artist has sold out practically all of her shows from San Francisco, to Boston, to Chicago, and even Canada.  To purchase tickets or for a full list of tour dates and  information on the artist, please visit her official website.

Boys Noize unveils new Defected release ‘All I Want’

Lauded electronic music producer Boys Noize returns to Defected Records with his latest release, “All I Want” featuring Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, available now to stream/download.

Boys Noize – “All I Want” feat. Jake Shears

Opening with a nostalgic Chicago house beat, ¨All I Want” is a rediscovered hidden gem that Alex Ridha (Boys Noize) found on an old broken hard drive.  Made with Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears, the track was intended to be heard exclusively at a New York City party and now sees its debut on the esteemed imprint Defected Records.  This track marks the artist’s second track on Defected and follows the success of “Mvinline” released last year.

To coincide with the announcement, the track comes paired with a hilariously amusing official music video.  Directed by Dan Streit and produced by Grin Machine, the video follows a narcissistic bodybuilder yearning for perfection and the loneliness that comes with being self-obsessed.

“When I thought about a video for this song, the idea about reversing the lyrics ‘all I want is you’ was the first thought. People obsess so much about their body, their look, their social profiles, their “likes”, and it becomes more important than everything else. I was a fan of Dan Streit’s previous work and focus on unique fringe characters, so I contacted him and presented him the idea for this video, he loved it and took it to the next level. “I love myself, look at me, look at my photos, look, people actually like me!”

  • Defected launches virtual event We Dance As One

Defected launches virtual event We Dance As One

Defected Records announced the launch of a three-part virtual event, “We Dance As One” beginning Friday, Oct. 30.

Set to kick-off the series of events with a massive lineup, the Oct. 30 event will feature performances by Carl Cox, CamelPhat, Mike Dunn, Natasha Diggs, Sam Divine, and more still yet to be announced.  Streamed via YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch, the sets will be broadcast from the artist’s homes or at their favorite nightclubs which are currently empty due to COVID-19 restrictions.

CamelPhat will be performing at Liverpool’s Mansion nightclub, a venue that they own in their hometown.  Sam Divine will play at London’s Ministry Of Sound, and Mike Dunn will be at Smartbar in his hometown, Chicago.  All performances will enforce strict restrictions and social distancing will be in place.

Aimed to provide hope and uplift the dance music community during this unprecedented time,  Defected Records also intends to raise awareness for the plight of the live entertainment sector in the UK and around the world.  With all activities supported by the Night Time Industries Association and Association For Electronic Music, “We Dance As One” is Defected’s way of showing solidarity for an industry that has largely been ignored and dismissed by the government.

Showing up for the culture in a way that only Defected can, We Dance As One will see world-renowned DJs broadcast to millions, completely free and accessible to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.

We cannot allow our culture to just be dismissed, or abandoned. Defected cannot stand by and let people just give up on nightlife, clubbing, and the extended industries dependent on events. Alongside the financial benefits, dancefloors and music enrich the lives of millions around the world, breaking down prejudices and boosting our mental health.”

    – Wez Saunders, Managing Director Defected Records

This pandemic has negatively impacted dedicated and highly skilled people in the music and events industry, told by the UK’s government ministers to “retrain” or find alternative careers rather than receiving the necessary support.  Defected will be taking this opportunity to bring on board workers who have been displaced or lost work during this time.

“We want this to be a calling card for those who have had their jobs and livelihoods taken away. We need to joyously remind people what these artists and DJs are best at, and why this music matters so much to the mental health of so many. We need to do what we do best at Defected and bring people together from around the world, getting people dancing. Our role is to ensure people are aware of the current threat to our very culture yet inspired enough to do something about it.”

    – James Kirkham, CBO Defected Records

The first “We Dance As One” event will stream live on Defected’s YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook platforms on Oct. 31.  There will also be subsequent events on Nov. 27 and a culminating event on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2021.  Lineup announcements are set to be made in the forthcoming weeks and months.
