Grammy-award-winning artists The Chemical Brothers announce the release of a mind-bending, new single, “The Darkness That You Feel” which is available to stream/download now via Republic Records.

The Chemical Brothers – The Darkness That You Fear

Opening with a mystifying vocal, “The Darkness That You Fear” is a true, one-of-a-kind Chemical Brothers production that pairs two contrasting vocal samples into one seamless recording.  With an indie, psychedelic vibe, the track sonically shifts from darkness into light to deliver an overarching message of hope for the future of the world. This track marks the duo’s first release since their Grammy Award-winning 2019 album, No Geography.

“’The Darkness That You Fear’ is a hopeful piece of music. When we found the combination of the different voices worked set to the flow of the music, it made us feel optimistic—like it was something we wanted to share.”

To accompany the release, the pair also announced the debut of a kaleidoscopic animated visual for the track. Directed by Ruffmercy, the Bristol-based artist has previously worked with the likes of Thom Yorke, Run The Jewels, and DJ Shadow.

“When I first heard the song I immediately connected with the theme and the overall positive vibe. New government rules for relaxing lockdown had been announced and combined with the sun shining, it left me feeling positive about the forthcoming summer. It also triggered a strong sense of nostalgia that led to me going back to look for visual inspiration from the period in time when I first discovered The Chemical Brothers in the mid ’90s. The video combines archive rave footage from the mid to late ’90s with hand-painted Super 8 film textures and hand-drawn animation. I love using color to create chaos and evoke emotions and this was the perfect project to do that.”
