BBC Radio 1 announced that Diplo’s long-running show Diplo & Friends, which aired from 11 PM to 1 AM on Saturday nights will be coming to a close with no secure date on its finale.
Over the past 10 years, BBC Radio 1’s Diplo & Friends became a hub for budding dance music producers to showcase their talents. The show’s highly esteemed guest mixes became a launchpad for many artists’ careers including Jauz and Willy Joy. The show highlighted the burgeoning sounds of electronic music over the span of the past decade.
This follows the recent announcement of the departure of Annie Mac whose BBC Radio 1 radio show will come to a close in June after 17 years with the station. Annie Mac explained that she was leaving to spend more time with her two children and to spend more time writing fiction. Her debut novel, Mother Mother is set to publish in May. Annie Mac is set to be replaced by Danny Howard on Radio 1 on Friday nights.
To further add to the changes in programming, Clara Amfo has been named the new host of Radio 1’s Future Sounds, and Sian Eleri and Sarah Story have been named as the hosts of two brand new programs, “Powerdown Playlist” and “Future Dance.”
